Removing and Installing a Fuel Pump on Your Car

1. First remove the negative battery cable and loosen the oil cap box.

2. Cut off the rubber to expose the fuel pump access panel, take the socket wrench and loosen all the bolts around the access panel to expose the module flange.

3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel module and remove the fuel lines, including the fuel hose and drain device.

Please note that residual fuel pressure will remain in the lines so be sure to use a rag to help restrict fuel injection, then clean around the fuel module opening with compressed air and brush away any excess debris that may have fallen into the tank.

4. Lock the ring tool and loosen the locking ring on the flange and remove the old module assembly from the tank.

5. Use a flashlight to quickly check the bottom of the tank. If there are debris floating at the bottom of the tank, the tank should be cleaned before replacing with a new pump.

6. Clean the tank before replacing the new pump, start replacing the pump, insert the new module into the tank and use the lock ring tool to secure the lock ring to install the module in place.

7. Place and reconnect the fuel hose and drain line, reconnect the electrical connectors.

8. Next reconnect the negative battery cable and tighten the gas cap.

9. Build up pressure in the line by turning the key to the open and closed positions. Perform this task at least three times.

10. Try starting the vehicle and check for leaks around the fuel tank area.

11. If there are no leaks place the access panel on the module flange and tighten the bolts with a socket wrench according to the manufacturer's specifications, put the rubber back into the access port and reinstall the rear seats.
